This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Angus McBride.

The people known as the Azillians lived in the same caves in northern Spain and Southern France (including the Pyrenees mountain range) as even more ancient peoples that had lived during the age of the Woolly Mammoth.

These people got their name from the habit of painting pebbles, possibly representing family members. Many of the pebbles have been split, it is thought to indicate the death of an individual.

They lived a lonely existence, hunting and fishing in the time of the great thaw after the last Ice Age. A stunning painting by Angus McBride with lots of detail in the animal skin clothing, trees etc.

From the series Mankind in the Making. Episode 6, The 'Painted Pebble People' originally published in Look and Learn #249 22 October 1968.
