The Borrowers were created by Mary Norton (1903 - 1992) who wrote the perennial children's favourites' first adventure in 1952. It was followed by six sequels and a short story. The last novel appeared in 1982.
She was also the author of Bed-knob and Broomsticks (1957). As Bedknobs and Broomsticks it became a part live action / part animation success for the Walt Disney studio in 1971.
In 1963/4 The wonderful British artist Philip Mendoza was given the task of illustrating the stories for the long running Fleetway children's pre-school comic Treasure. Mendoza brought the same level of skill and innocent charm that he displayed in his Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland adaptations.
Published 25th April 1964 2nd page of Treasure.
